Symmetry Alpha is operated by Leading Alpha Technologies (“we”, “us”), which respects your privacy. This policy explains what personal information we collect through this website and the Symmetry Alpha research platform (together, the “Services”), why we collect it, and the choices and rights you have. We handle personal information in line with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 and other data protection laws that apply to us.
1. Information we collect
When you contact us
- Contact form: your name, email address, the topic you choose and your message.
- WhatsApp: if you choose to message us on WhatsApp, we receive your phone number, your WhatsApp profile name and the messages you send.
When you request access
- Request details: your name, email address and WhatsApp number, and — if you give them — what you would like to research, your experience and a note. We also record where you asked from (this website, the live demo or the platform’s sign-in page), when you asked, confirmed your email address and were invited.
- Live demo: the demo needs no sign-up and tests on past market prices. Nothing you build in it is saved. To keep it fair, we count how many tests each connection runs in an hour, using your IP address, and forget the count after that hour.
When you use the Research Platform
- Account details: your username and, where provided, your email address. Your password is stored only in a scrambled (hashed) form that cannot be read back, not even by us.
- Platform activity: the research settings you save, the studies you run and their results, and records of when you sign in, kept so the platform works and stays secure.
When you visit this website
- Technical information: like most websites, our servers and our network provider (Cloudflare) process your IP address, browser type and the pages you request, to deliver the site and protect it against abuse.
- Cookies: see section 5. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies, and we do not run third-party analytics on this site. We count visits and demo use in totals per day (for example, how many demos were started), without cookies and without recording who you are.
2. How we use your information
- To reply to your messages and enquiries, including about platform access.
- To handle access requests: confirming your email address, deciding who to invite, and emailing you an invitation when there’s a place for you.
- To provide the Research Platform: creating and securing your account, and saving your work.
- To keep the Services secure, including preventing spam, fraud and unauthorised access.
- To meet our legal obligations and to establish or defend legal claims.
We rely on your consent (for example, when you send us a message), on the need to provide a service you have asked for (your platform account), on our legitimate interest in running secure and reliable Services, and on legal obligations where they apply. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.
3. Who we share it with
We share personal information only with service providers that help us run the Services:
- Google, whose email service delivers and stores contact-form messages and sends emails about access requests.
- Cloudflare, which carries traffic to this website and the platform and protects them from attacks.
- WhatsApp (Meta), if you choose to contact us there. WhatsApp’s own privacy policy applies to your use of WhatsApp.
We may also disclose information where the law requires it, or to protect the rights, safety and property of Leading Alpha Technologies, our members or others.
4. International transfers
Some of these providers process information outside Nigeria. Where they do, we rely on safeguards recognised under applicable data protection law, such as the provider’s contractual commitments to protect personal information.
5. Cookies
- Theme preference (
la_theme): remembers whether you chose the light or dark look, for one year. It is shared between this website and the platform so your choice applies on both. - Platform sign-in: when you sign in to the Research Platform, a cookie keeps you signed in until you sign out or the session expires. The platform cannot work without it.
- Signed-in marker (
sa_signed_in): set by the platform while you’re signed in, so this website shows “Open the platform” instead of “Log in”. It holds no account details and goes when you sign out. - Security: our network provider, Cloudflare, may set cookies needed to protect the Services from abuse.
You can delete cookies in your browser settings. Doing so resets your theme choice and signs you out.
6. How long we keep it
- Messages you send us: as long as needed to deal with your enquiry, and normally no longer than 24 months.
- Access requests: until you get an account or ask to be removed, and normally no longer than 24 months.
- Platform accounts and the work saved in them: while your account is active, and deleted when you ask us to close it, unless the law requires us to keep something longer.
- Technical and security records: for a short period, unless needed to investigate a security incident.
7. How we protect it
We use encrypted connections (HTTPS), store passwords only in hashed form, limit access to personal information to people who need it, and protect the platform behind sign-in. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your information and will act promptly if a problem arises.
8. Your rights
Subject to applicable law, you have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you;
- ask us to correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete;
- ask us to delete your information, or to restrict how we use it;
- object to how we use your information, and withdraw your consent at any time;
- receive your information in a commonly used, machine-readable format.
To use any of these rights, contact us. We may need to confirm your identity first. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission or the data protection authority where you live.
9. Children
The Services are intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has given us their information, please contact us and we will delete it.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The “last updated” date above shows when it last changed. If the changes are significant, we will make that clear on this website or tell platform members directly.
